It is important to assess
your personal risk for osteoporosis. |
 |
Many of the secondary risk factors for men are
the same as those for women such as taking medications like
steroids or having certain diseases that increase the likelihood
of bone loss and/or osteoporosis. |
 |
In general, bone mineral density testing is
recommended for male adults on steroid medications for more
than three months and for men with a current and/or previous
low-impact fracture, or a major risk factor for osteoporosis. |
 |
All medical conditions in men that cause osteoporosis
should be treated. For example, if your osteoporosis is the
result of testosterone deficiency, your doctor may prescribe
testosterone replacement therapy. |
 |
If you are diagnosed with osteoporosis or have
significant risk factors for developing osteoporosis, you may
also need to take a medication to reduce bone loss and /or
prevent fractures. |
